At Forward, we’re doing something that no one’s ever done before: Providing a new type of healthcare that combines cutting-edge technology, personalized plans and real-time results with 24/7 connected care. To us, at least, becoming a Forward member seems like kind of a no-brainer.
But, as good as the service is, why do doctors come to work at Forward, and leave the comfort and familiarity of traditional healthcare behind? Maybe it’s the opportunity to work with Smart Screens, Body Scanners and biometric sensors. Or, maybe it’s a chance to “get back more time to spend talking with members about their health concerns,” says Dr. Christopher Moore, a physician currently at Forward’s San Francisco location in the Financial District.
We spoke with Dr. Moore to find out why Forward was the right fit for him.
What first drew you to practice medicine?
I wanted to establish profound relationships with people through helping them to protect and promote their health. I also love being a professional in a field like medicine that’s always growing and improving in its impact.
Why did you decide to join Forward?
I’ve seen the ways in which under-resourced and disadvantaged populations are kept out of fair and equitable access to health care. Also, there is so much more that the healthcare industry can do to make healthcare delivery much more efficient. I’ve always wanted to be a part of the solution to challenges in healthcare and, at Forward, I get a chance.
What’s the best part about working with and getting to know Forward members?
Forward has added all this technology to help free physicians up to spend more time listening to and interacting with members instead of taking so many notes, and that’s been incredible. That’s allowed me to help everyone I see work towards and hopefully achieve their health goals.
Do you have a morning routine? What do you like to do before coming into the office?
First thing I like to do is snuggle my dog, Nina. Then, I make my coffee.
What’s the coolest piece of tech you get to use now that you didn’t get to use before you became a Forward doctor?
Definitely the Smart Screen!
Any funny stories from medical school?
After admitting an elderly woman who had been constipated for several days, my team resident on my rotation tasked me with manually disimpacting (literally pulling the poop out of) this poor woman. After about a minute I started gagging so loud from the room that the floor nurses came rushing in anticipating an emergency. They literally had to tell me to stop.
What’s one thing you don’t miss having to do that you used to have to do before joining Forward?
Definitely the paperwork!
